Planetarium staff would help school groups and museum guests understand the cycles of the Moon. Specifically they would cover why the Moon goes through different phases and why it appears at different times during the day. This animation was created to be a visual aid for the instructor’s lesson.
This video was made to be featured on the Giant Screen theater and on classroom projectors.

Since this was intended to be shown at a museum, we knew it needed to be realistic while also looking fun and engaging for all audiences. Therefore, we designed all the art to be light and fun, but the animation would be close to the actual data. For example, because the Moon makes a trip around the Earth every 27.32 Earth days, we made the Earth rotate 27.32 times during the Moon’s revolution around the Earth.
